Dr. Natalie Carlton is an Associate Clinical Professor and Director of the Art Therapy program at Drexel University. Prior to joining the Drexel University faculty, Natalie was a School of the Art Institute of Chicago Visiting Artist and helped conceptualize and organize the 2016 Creative Digital Media in Therapeutic Processes symposium. She is author and co-author of several articles and chapters including Digital culture and art therapy (2014) and Illustrating stories: The use of graphic novels in art therapy (2016). 

 

As a board-certified art therapist, Natalie has worked with children, youth, and family systems, people with developmental disabilities and chronic psychiatric illnesses, and within trauma and addiction recovery models. Her clinical work has focused on the therapeutic use of diverse materials including fabric crafts, clay and sculpture, drawing and painting, and printmaking as well as new media use for photography/video and sound recording. Social justice, systems, feminism, and queer theory have been some grounding theoretical orientations for the therapy support and access Natalie has provided.
